O-rings are circular rubber rings that are widely used for sealing in various systems and devices. They can seal both static and dynamic parts, and can work with different media and motion conditions. They are simple, cheap, and easy to install.

O-rings work by creating contact pressure on the sealing surface through elastic deformation. The contact pressure should be greater than the internal pressure of the sealed medium to prevent leakage.

O-rings have different types according to their material, shape, and application. Different types have different properties and advantages.

Material type: O-rings can be made of rubber, silicone, polyurethane, nitrile, chloroprene, epdm, FKM, ptfe etc. Different materials have different resistance to temperature, oil, acid, alkali, aging, abrasion etc. For example, nitrile o rings are good for oil-resistant seals, silicone o rings are good for high-temperature resistant seals, FKM o rings are good for acid-resistant seals etc.

Shape type: O-rings can have circular, square, x-shaped, y-shaped cross-sections. Different shapes have different performance and suitability. For example, circular o rings are common and versatile, square o rings have better anti-extrusion performance, x-shaped o rings have better wear resistance, y-shaped o rings have better self-lubrication etc.

Application field: O-rings can be used for hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, aerospace, military, oilfield etc. Different fields have different requirements and challenges. For example, hydraulic o rings should have good oil resistance and pressure resistance, pneumatic o rings should have good air tightness and low friction, vacuum o rings should have low outgassing rate and high vacuum resistance, aerospace o rings should have high and low temperature resistance and reliability etc.

O-rings are a great sealing solution for many situations. However, they also have some limitations, such as limited pressure range, limited motion speed, limited sealing gap etc. Therefore,O-rings should be selected and used according to specific conditions and requirements.
